The “Heiva i Tahiti 2015″ started yesterday in Tahiti, French Polynesia. And I have the chance to be there at the same time! 🙂 More than just a simple festival, Heiva I Tahiti has become the symbol of the Polynesian culture and an iconic event in Tahiti.
We can hear the drums from the rehearsals every evenings all around the beautiful island of Tahiti, our Fenua. Dancers of all ages, women, men and kids have been training for a year to give out their best on stage. It’s going to be spectacular!
The Heiva i Tahiti 2015 performances every evening for 2 weeks, highlight the drama of an opera and the distinct imprints of an ancestral tradition. The dances are unique creations, for which the dancers train for six months or more. Text music, choreography and costumes are based on a historical or legendary theme.
Live music and singing accompany the dancers. Each school having their own live band with high level singers, ukulele players, percussionists and so on.
The 2015 edition of Heiva i Tahiti promise to be rich this year with more than 1000 dancers on stage. We will post more pictures in the coming days. Can you hear the Drums? Go Tahiti !
